Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie – Tale Weaver #278DIRTY WINDOWS

Cyranny’s Cove – Word of the Day ChallengeUntold

Everyday after lunch, the lady of the house had this strange habit of dispersing from rest of the house. She went to her room but did not take a nap. With no book to read, no pen to write and no wool to knit, she would sit on her chair and looked outside the dirty window of her room. She would be in her best dress, wearing red paint and the most beautiful smile on her lips.

When she suffered from a kind of OCD, why did she leave this one window to be the dirtiest ? It escaped the regular soaping, brushing and constant rubbing. I often wondered. Layers and layers of dirt on the glass, dust and dirt and the panes were too greasy to touch. What was her bond with it ? I held her eccentric though I had the most urge to see what she was enjoying there.

Trying to decipher the meaning of this strange connection, I always failed. She had a certain unctuous trait while she sat there. Fearing what yeet might yield from her or a knock out from a fight that might erupt, I refrained from asking her.

But one day, as if hit by a wave of current, I mustered up my whole courage to confront her and a totally unexpected smile welcomed me. Her tired eyes sparkled when she invited me to have a look. I stared blankly and could make out anything but the dirty greasy glass and pane staring back. I did not intend to break her heart and with a simple thank you, I stepped back. Without any questions asked, she resumed. I walked out of the room to turn back to see her mind happily floating away. Fond memories ?? Lost love? Hopes of somebody’s return? Oh !!! This she kept untold !!!

Unaware we are, of what lies ahead. The secret of the dirty windows always remained a mystery, but her happiness with the slightest proximity to it was never hidden. And when she decided to leave this world, I saw this one window being cleaned first.
