Pomegranate Seeds

FreeVerseRevolution – Pomegranate Seeds– September Writing Prompt #2

Again late for the post !!
things here are getting super busy and I keep missing the prompts !!!

On a lonely night, my eyes are fixed,
on a single pomegranate- probably
the last one of the season.
The crescent moon shines upon
the thick skin of the fruit,
causing the fall of a red haze beneath.
And through the skin, I imagine
hundreds of young hearts
waiting for their way outwards.
To cast a spell on the ways of many,
to stain many lips red,
that can seduce many hearts,
and to later find a way
into the inner wombs of life.
The pomegranate seeds,
dreaming of paving a way of sunshine,
under the ardent lover moon.
But should I let them dream on?
Or should they be made the
subject of my carnal hunger?
Their redness enough to tempt
any passerby- man, animal or the wind.
Or maybe even the moon too
has an eye on the seeds,
for he has been white for long.
But then, I ponder-
who am I to make their fate?
they shall fall when it is time,
or they may end up rotten.
they might be plucked for their juice,
or maybe be pushed down the throat.
But for now, I leave it for nature.
Maybe the tree has invested
all her hopes in this one child of hers.
to birth more of her lot.
Maybe her red color is for some reason,
and her hard skin for another.
Who am I to know?

  1. “Hundreds of young hearts waiting for their way outwards” – This will stay long with me. Not that I like the others less.

How do you come with such mind-blowing analogy, Nima? The entire verse is fantastic! ❀

    1. Thank you so much dear Anisha πŸ™‚
Am so glad to read your comment dear …

      The truth is I don’t know πŸ˜€
Sometimes, it flows just like that.. and some days.. most of the days now.. a total block !!! πŸ˜€

      1. It’s a pleasure reading your poems, Nima! πŸ€—

It’s not always easy to put thoughts into words in a manner that pleases many. You’re really good at that. I wish you overcome your blockage soon. πŸ˜€

  2. It’s better late than never. Your posts are worth waiting.
Once again this becomes my favorite piece. This is next in number after that last post which I absolutely loved, the night and the moon one.
Same is the case here, I just see you pondering over what to do with that pomegranate.
The kind of explanation you gave that how it is the only child bearing the expectation, how you talk about it’s fate, how you say it can tempt anyone and even the moon has its eyes on it.
And then the internal dilemma in your mind regarding whether you should consume it or not. And then the best decision to leave it to nature only.
I mean I can imagine you standing in front of that tree and looking at that seed and thinking and thinking and thinking from all perspectives and than landing to a decision, that too a fair one.
Who knows if gets rotten, but who knows if it germinates and be the reason for all other pomegranates.

    Wow Nima wow!
Do I need to mention how beautiful it is? Well I do need to. It’s absolutely beautiful and thoughtful.
    Well done Nima!
