MLMM Saturday Mix – Double Take
The ‘Double Take’ challenge focuses on the use of homophones* to build your writing piece. You have two sets of homophones and you are challenged to use all of them in your response – which can be poetry or prose.
Our homophone sets this week are:
aisle – walkway
I’ll – contraction of “I will”
isle – island
and
alter – to change
altar – raised centre of worship
line for this week is:
“I’m bought and worn, but I ain’t no dupe.”
I am bought and worn,
but I ain’t no dupe.
The laces, the pearls,
the dainty daisies in white,
woven together to form a bond,
love for life.
For the “dream com true” day,
with dreams she adorned me.
Down the aisle she moved,
with the grace of a queen.
I was the only one who
could hear her heart,
and I remember how it
raced to the altar.
From the day she said I will,
till that day when she said I do,
She lived with the dire desire
to see him at the isle,
tearing up on first sight of her.
They were special and nothing,
could alter their special love.
Anniversary dances were done,
every year with love,
passion, intensity and dresses – same.
Memories were made and
moments were lives.
But today, she was alone.
This time, without him,
she did the ritual.
Wearing me, her wedding dress,
she started dancing
to their favorite tune.
I felt her heart again,
throbbing hard and,
heavy with grief.
She closed her eyes,
and thought of him.
And then a whiff of wind,
kept my laces flying,
I sensed a breath, so dear to me.
Close to her, very close,
and moving around with her.
Even death could not part them.
Still, I am bright and a fading white.
I ain’t no dupe, for,
A wedding dress I am,
that kept and still keeps
two souls wedded forever,
with my silken threads.
