The Ballerina / Poem

– Araki Photograph Studio

Her feet spinning like a swirling top,
Her hands freely moving in the air,
Defying all forces she moved around,
Her sparkling eyes and shimmering dress,
Brighter than the fairy lights around,
She did a dreamy dance.
Like a floating dandelion in the breeze,
She moved with such grace,
Her head held high with poise,
As she was taught since the start.
She carried her lessons inside,
And all the movements precise.
And as she tip toed around the stage,
The sun cast shadows on her,
Through the tiny splits above.
She welcomed those warm rays,
As the beauty welcoming elegance.
When the audience cheered the act,
Of the sun imprinting designs,
They did not notice the scars she endured,
Nor the pain she buried deep.
As she was taught since the start.
She carried her lessons inside,
To smile gracefully –
even if it meant bleeding or bent toes.

My entry for Photo Challenge #299 from MindLoveMisery’s Managerie.
The challenge is to use the image as an inspiration for a poem/ a short story. And mine is a poem about a Ballerina.
